Nissan Interstar
The Nissan Interstar is Nissan's large van and was sold from 2011 to 2021 as the NV400; in 2021 the same model was given the name Interstar. This first generation is technically identical to the Renault Master III and the Opel Movano B and was supplied with 2.3 dCi diesels, with front-wheel drive or with rear-wheel drive with single or twin rear wheels. Since 2024 the Interstar has been based on the Renault Master IV, with a 2.0-litre diesel engine and the fully electric Interstar-e with a 40 or 87 kWh battery. The model is used by construction and installation companies, couriers and rental companies, among others, and besides the closed panel van it has also been supplied as a chassis cab and double cab.
NV400 / Interstar (Renault Master III base) (2011-2024)
Introduced in 2011 as the NV400, technically identical to the Renault Master III, with the 2.3 dCi in various power outputs and front- or rear-wheel drive. Around 2014-2016 Twin Turbo versions with stop-start arrived, followed by Euro 6 with AdBlue/SCR; the 2019 facelift brought a new front end and Euro 6d engines. In 2021 the model was renamed Interstar, with the Acenta and N-Connecta trim levels.

Interstar (Renault Master IV base) (2024-present)
Completely new generation based on the Renault Master IV with a more aerodynamic body (according to Nissan 20% less drag) and new wheelbases. The 2.3 dCi has been replaced by a 2.0-litre diesel engine (engine code M920) with a six-speed manual or 9-speed automatic. The electric Interstar-e is available with 40 or 87 kWh, rapid charging up to 130 kW DC and AC charging up to 22 kW.

The dimensions at a glance
Of the Nissan Interstar there are 13 versions, load length 258 cm to 438 cm, load volume 8,0 m³ to 17,0 m³. The full dimensions table by version, with wheelbase, exterior dimensions, width between the wheel arches and Euro pallets, is on the dimensions page.
What the Interstar is known for
- Technically identical to the Renault Master (and on generation 1 also the Opel Movano B), so parts and knowledge of this platform are widely available
- Wide choice of bodies, from L1H1 to L4H3, with load volumes of approximately 8 to 17 m3
- Choice of front-wheel drive with a low load floor or rear-wheel drive with twin rear wheels and a braked trailer weight of up to 3,000 kg (3,500 kg with increased towing capacity)
- Supplied new with a 5-year or 160,000 km factory warranty on the van range
- The Interstar-e (87 kWh) has a stated WLTP range of up to 460 km and was voted Van of the Year 2026
What to look out for on a used example
- On the 2.3 dCi (M9T), check the EGR valve, turbo and injectors: look out for loss of power, soot emissions and an illuminated engine warning light. The engine has a timing chain; listen for rattling on a cold start.
- Check the service book: Nissan uses an interval of 2 years or 40,000 km for the diesels; with heavy use, earlier maintenance may be needed.
- On Euro 6 diesels, check the operation of the AdBlue/SCR system and the particulate filter, and at high mileages the clutch, gearbox, brakes and the rails and hinges of the sliding and rear doors.
- On the Interstar-e, check the battery health (State of Health), the charging history and whether the charging cables are included.
These points apply to the model in general. What applies to a specific vehicle depends on its maintenance history; we discuss this for every vehicle we sell.
