Choose the right layout for your application

Not every 9-seater vehicle is laid out the same way. For taxi transport, comfort matters most: individual seats, sufficient legroom and separate air conditioning outlets at the rear. For care transport, a low entry or an electric step is important, and sometimes a removable row of seats for a wheelchair. For shuttle or team transport, for example for sports clubs, luggage space behind the last row of seats weighs more heavily than luxury finishing. Check during viewing whether the seats are foldable or removable: this makes the vehicle flexibly deployable for both passenger and goods transport, and prevents you from being locked into one fixed configuration.

What to look out for when buying

First check the total weight (the permitted maximum mass) on the registration certificate. With a category B driving licence you may drive a vehicle with a maximum of 8 seats plus driver, provided the permitted mass does not exceed 3.500 kg; some larger 9-seater minibuses exceed this limit, in which case a category C1 licence is required. Also always ask for the maintenance logbook: vehicles that have been used intensively for taxi or care transport often cover many kilometres per year, so a recent timing belt or chain replacement and a valid APK (MOT/TÜV) are extra important. Also test the air conditioning thoroughly, because with eight occupants you will notice weak cooling immediately.

Buy or financial lease?

For taxi entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals just starting out, financial lease is often more attractive than buying outright: you finance up to 100% of the purchase value with a term of up to 72 months, so you don't need to free up a large amount at once and your working capital remains available for, for example, fuel and maintenance. If you prefer to buy the vehicle outright, you have no monthly obligation and are fully the owner from day one, which often works out cheaper in the long run with intensive use. Compact Vito Tourer or a larger minibus?

A Mercedes Vito Tourer is more manoeuvrable in the city, fits in most parking garages and generally uses less fuel than a larger minibus based on, for example, a Sprinter or Crafter. If you regularly need to carry a wheelchair or a lot of luggage, a larger minibus offers more standing height and load space behind the last row of seats, which often makes getting in and out easier for people with reduced mobility. If manoeuvrability and daily use in the city matter most to you, choose the more compact variant; if space and accessibility are more important, the larger minibus is the more logical choice.
