Sprinter as a box truck or tipper: conversion and use

The Sprinter chassis cab has long been a popular base for bodybuilders creating box trucks, furniture vans and tippers. For construction and contracting work, a tipper is handy for soil, rubble or materials, while a box truck with a tail lift is useful for removals, furniture transport or parcel delivery. When looking at a used conversion, check the condition of the load floor and side panels, the operation of the tail lift and any signs of rust around the mounting rails. Also ask about the build year of the conversion itself, as this may differ from the build year of the chassis.

What to check with a used Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle?

When buying a used vehicle, always check the maintenance history and the mileage relative to its age. For the commonly used diesel engines, it's wise to ask about recent maintenance on the timing chain and the AdBlue system, as these are components that may need attention at higher mileages. When examining the bodywork, look carefully for rust around the wheel arches and lower edges, especially on older Sprinters and Vitos. A valid APK (MOT/TÜV) inspection report also gives a good indication of the current technical condition.
