Nissan Primastar
The Nissan Primastar is a medium-sized van that has been in production since 2021 as the successor to the Nissan NV300 (2016-2021). Both models are technically identical to the Renault Trafic and share its body, load area and diesel engines. The model is supplied as a closed panel van, double cab and Combi with up to nine seats, in two lengths (L1/L2) and two roof heights (H1/H2). The NV300 used a 1.6 dCi until 2019 and a 2.0 dCi after that; the Primastar has only the 2.0 dCi with 110 to 170 hp. With the 2025 update the Primastar gained a longer nose and a nine-speed automatic in place of the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
NV300 (2016-2021)
Launched with a 1.6 dCi (single turbo 95/120 hp, twin-turbo 125/145 hp) and a six-speed gearbox. With the 2019 update the 1.6 dCi variants above 95 hp were replaced by a 2.0 dCi with 120, 145 and 170 hp (Euro 6d-TEMP), with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DCT) as an option on the 145 and 170 hp, plus new upholstery and infotainment.

Primastar (2021-present)
New name and updated front end and interior compared with the NV300, with only the 2.0 dCi in four power outputs (Euro 6d-Full). The 150 and 170 hp were available with a six-speed DCT until 2025. With the 2025 update the nose became longer (L1 5,080 mm, L2 5,480 mm), a nine-speed ZF torque converter automatic replaced the DCT and the maximum trailer weight with the automatic rose from 1.8 to 2.5 tonnes.

The dimensions at a glance
Of the Nissan Primastar there are 8 versions, load length 254 cm to 294 cm, load volume 5,2 m³ to 8,6 m³. The full dimensions table by version, with wheelbase, exterior dimensions, width between the wheel arches and Euro pallets, is on the dimensions page.
What the Primastar is known for
- Technically identical to the Renault Trafic, so parts and knowledge are widely available
- Choice of two wheelbases and two roof heights with 5.2 to 8.6 m³ of load volume
- Load-through hatch under the passenger bench for a load length of up to approximately 3.35 m
- Available as a panel van, double cab and Combi with up to nine seats
- Automatic available on the more powerful 2.0 dCi versions (DCT, nine-speed automatic from 2025)
What to look out for on a used example
- Check the maintenance history and whether the timing belt and oil change intervals were followed according to the manufacturer's specifications.
- On the 2.0 dCi (and the twin-turbo 1.6 dCi), check the operation of the AdBlue/SCR system and that there are no fault messages in the instrument cluster.
- On an automatic (six-speed DCT), check the shifting behaviour when pulling away and manoeuvring slowly during the test drive.
- Check the sliding doors, load floor and wheel arches for damage from use, and look up any outstanding recalls via the RDW.
These points apply to the model in general. What applies to a specific vehicle depends on its maintenance history; we discuss this for every vehicle we sell.
