Ford Transit

The Ford Transit is Ford's large van and sits above the more compact Transit Custom in the range. The model is supplied as a closed panel van, double cab, chassis cab and passenger version, in lengths L2 to L4 and roof heights H2 and H3. What stands out is the choice between front-wheel drive (lower load floor, more load volume), rear-wheel drive (higher payload and towing capacity) and four-wheel drive. In the Netherlands the Transit is mainly used by construction and installation companies, courier and distribution services and as a base for conversions such as box trucks and motorhomes. Since 2022, alongside the 2.0 EcoBlue diesel, there has also been the fully electric E-Transit on the same body.

Transit Mk8 (incl. the 2019 facelift) (2014-present)

With the Mk8 the large Transit moved to a new platform with a choice of front-, rear- and four-wheel drive and a noticeably more car-like cab. In 2016 the 2.0 EcoBlue diesel replaced the 2.2 TDCi (Euro 6, more torque and lower consumption). The 2019 facelift brought a new nose, an updated interior, a 185 hp top version, 48V mild hybrid technology and, from 2020, a 10-speed automatic on rear-wheel drive.

SportSporty top version with the most powerful engine, striping, alloy wheels and extra interior trim; supplied in limited numbers in the Netherlands.

E-Transit (fully electric) (2022-present)

The E-Transit uses the same bodies as the Mk8, but is always rear-wheel drive with the battery flat under the load floor, so the load volume stays the same. In 2025, alongside the 68 kWh pack, an Extended Range with 89 kWh arrived, with faster charging (22 kW AC, 180 kW DC) and a standard heat pump.

What to look out for on a used example

The 2.0 EcoBlue has a timing belt that runs in the engine oil; in 2024 Ford shortened the interval to 160,000 km or 6 years (previously 240,000 km/10 years). Ask for proof of replacement and of oil changes with the prescribed Ford oil.
Injector problems are known on early 2.0 EcoBlue engines (2016-2019); Ford carried out a service campaign in 2019. Check whether it has been done and look out for rough idling or high oil consumption.
At high mileages, check the operation of the sliding door and its rails, the closing of the rear doors and rust around the wheel arches and under the load sill.
On the E-Transit: request a battery status report and check the remaining term of the 8-year/160,000 km warranty on the electric drivetrain.
