Medium-sized van

Toyota ProAce

The Toyota ProAce is a medium-sized van that Toyota builds together with Stellantis (formerly PSA); it shares its engineering and body with the Peugeot Expert, Citroen Jumpy, Opel Vivaro and Fiat Scudo. The first generation (2013-2016) was a rebadged Fiat Scudo, the second generation has been based on the EMP2 platform since 2016 and received a facelift in 2024. In the Netherlands the model is supplied as a closed panel van with single or double cab, in three lengths (Compact, Medium/Worker and Long), and as the ProAce Verso minibus with five to nine seats. Since 2020, alongside the diesel, there has been a fully electric ProAce Electric with a 50 or 75 kWh battery. Users are mainly installers, construction and maintenance companies, service providers and taxi and care transport operators looking for a van that still fits in a car park.

ProAce I (Fiat Scudo platform) (2013-2016)

The first ProAce was a version of the previous-generation Fiat Scudo/Peugeot Expert sold by Toyota. Toyota added no engineering of its own; the range consisted of three body variants (L1H1, L2H1, L2H2) and diesel engines only. In 2016 this model was replaced by the ProAce built on the EMP2 platform.

Completely new model on the EMP2 platform, shared with the Peugeot Expert, Citroen Jumpy and Opel Vivaro. The van became lower and shorter than its predecessor (Compact below 1.90 m) and gained three lengths, an optional Smart Cargo hatch floor and modern driver assistance systems. Around 2019-2020 the 1.5 D-4D replaced the 1.6 diesel and an 8-speed automatic arrived; with the 2024 facelift the nose, interior and multimedia system were updated.

The dimensions at a glance

Of the Toyota ProAce there are 14 versions, load length 216 cm to 286 cm, load volume 1,2 m³ to 7,0 m³. The full dimensions table by version, with wheelbase, exterior dimensions, width between the wheel arches and Euro pallets, is on the dimensions page.

What the ProAce is known for

  • Load volume of 4.6 to 6.1 m3 and, with the optional Smart Cargo hatch floor, a load length of over 4 metres
  • Payload up to approximately 1,400 kg (diesel) and up to 1,275 kg on the electric version with 50 kWh battery
  • The Compact version stays below 1.90 m in height and therefore fits in most car parks
  • Engineering shared with the Peugeot Expert, Citroen Jumpy, Opel Vivaro and Fiat Scudo, so parts are widely available
  • Electric version with the same load area as the diesel, because the battery sits under the load floor

What to look out for on a used example

  • The 1.5 and 2.0 D-4D have a timing belt that runs in oil; check that the prescribed replacement (usually around 175,000-180,000 km or 10 years) has been carried out and that the oil service interval has been followed.
  • On diesel versions with a particulate filter and AdBlue: check for fault messages relating to the SCR system and for many short trips, which hinder regeneration of the particulate filter.
  • Check the sliding door rails and rollers for play and stiffness, and on examples used commercially check the load floor, wheel arches and rear door hinges for wear.
  • On a ProAce Electric: request a battery certificate or State of Health and check the remaining term of the battery warranty (8 years or 160,000 km from the factory).

These points apply to the model in general. What applies to a specific vehicle depends on its maintenance history; we discuss this for every vehicle we sell.
