MAN TGE

The MAN TGE is the large van from MAN Truck & Bus and has been built since 2017 in Września (Poland), on the same line and with the same engineering as the second-generation Volkswagen Crafter. The model is intended for businesses that need a van of up to 5.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, from closed panel van to chassis cab for a box truck, tipper or pick-up. There is a choice of front-, rear- and four-wheel drive, which also makes the TGE suitable for heavier conversions and trailer use. In the Netherlands the TGE is sold and serviced through MAN's truck dealer network, so the model is often used by construction, installation and transport companies that already run MAN trucks. Alongside the diesel versions there is the fully electric eTGE, technically identical to the Volkswagen e-Crafter.

TGE (Crafter platform) (2017-present)

The TGE is MAN's first van model and shares its platform, engines and body with the second-generation Volkswagen Crafter. The electric eTGE was added in 2018. With the 2024 model revision the lowest power output was dropped, a 163 hp version was added and the interior, multimedia systems and driver assistance systems were updated.

What to look out for on a used example

The 2.0 TDI has a timing belt; stick to the replacement interval prescribed by the manufacturer and ask for the receipt if the mileage is high.
Check the AdBlue system and the particulate filter: many short trips in the city lead to fault messages and more frequent regeneration.
Check the sliding door and the rear doors for wear of the rails, rollers and hinges; on vans with a lot of delivery work this is a known wear point.
Chassis cabs with a conversion (box body, tipper, refrigeration) should also come with inspection papers for the conversion and, with a tail lift or tipper, a valid inspection certificate.
