Compact van

Citroën Berlingo

The Citroën Berlingo is a compact van supplied in two lengths in the Netherlands. The Berlingo II (2008-2018) ran mainly on 1.6 HDi and later 1.6 BlueHDi diesel engines, with an electric version with a small battery also available from 2013. The Berlingo III (2018-present) is built on the Stellantis EMP2 platform and is technically identical to the Peugeot Partner, Opel Combo and Toyota Proace City. Alongside 1.5 BlueHDi diesels and a 1.2 PureTech petrol engine, the electric ë-Berlingo Van with a 50 kWh battery has been available since late 2021; after the 2024 model update, that electric version is the starting point of the range.

Berlingo II (B9) (2008-2018)

Facelift in 2012 (e-HDi engines with start-stop, 1.6 VTi petrol) and in 2015 (new front end, Euro 6 BlueHDi diesels 75/100/120). The electric Berlingo (49 kW, 22.5 kWh) was supplied from around 2013.

The dimensions at a glance

Of the Citroën Berlingo there are 4 versions, load length 180 cm to 217 cm, load volume 3,3 m³ to 3,9 m³. The full dimensions table by version, with wheelbase, exterior dimensions, width between the wheel arches and Euro pallets, is on the dimensions page.

What the Berlingo is known for

  • Two lengths (M and XL) with 3.3 to 3.9 m³ of load volume, on the Berlingo III with two Euro pallets between the wheel arches (1,229 mm).
  • Extenso cab with folding passenger seat and load-through hatch for longer items.
  • Payload up to approximately 1,000 kg on the versions with increased payload.
  • Choice of diesel, petrol and fully electric, with an ë-Berlingo that has the same load area dimensions as the combustion versions.
  • Technically shared platform with the Peugeot Partner, Opel Combo and Toyota Proace City, which benefits the availability of parts.

What to look out for on a used example

  • On 1.6 HDi engines (Berlingo II), check the maintenance history: the engine is sensitive to timely oil changes, and turbo and starting problems are reported more often at higher mileages.
  • On BlueHDi diesels, check the operation of the AdBlue system and the particulate filter, especially after many short trips.
  • On the 1.2 PureTech petrol engine, check whether the timing belt has been replaced as prescribed (or as part of a recall campaign).
  • On the ë-Berlingo, check the battery health (SoH) and charging history; the factory warranty on the battery pack runs for 8 years or 160,000 km to 70% capacity.

These points apply to the model in general. What applies to a specific vehicle depends on its maintenance history; we discuss this for every vehicle we sell.

Compare the Berlingo with another model
