The second row of seats does come at the cost of load space: the load bed behind the cabin is shorter than with a single cab, so weigh up beforehand how much material you actually need to bring versus the number of people. If you usually drive with two or three people, a single cab with more load space often makes more sense.

What to look out for with a used Transporter double cab

Double cabs are often used intensively on building sites, so check the condition of the load bed and chassis extra carefully for corrosion and weld spots. Ask for the maintenance book and check whether the timing chain or belt has been replaced on time; this is a known point of attention with the 2.0 TDI engines. Also pay attention to tyre wear, since the weight of a full cabin plus load presses more heavily on the rear axle than with a standard van.
