Operational lease or financial lease: what suits your box truck?

Operational lease and financial lease differ mainly in ownership and risk. With operational lease you effectively rent the box truck from a leasing company: you pay a fixed monthly amount including maintenance and insurance, but you never become the owner and there is often a mileage limit. With financial lease you effectively purchase the box truck through financing: the vehicle goes on your balance sheet, you build up equity, and afterwards you can do as you please with the vehicle. For entrepreneurs who use a box truck long-term and want tax benefits (depreciation, VAT deduction for business use), financial lease is often more attractive than operational lease. If you prefer short, flexible use without worrying about maintenance, operational lease suits your situation better.

Buying a used box truck: what should you look for?

When buying a used box truck, first check the load capacity and cargo space: does the box truck suit your goods, and do you stay within the permitted weight for your driving licence? Up to 3,500 kg you can drive with a category B licence, above that you need a category C licence. Also check whether you need a tail lift for heavy or rollable materials, or whether a step-in height without a lift is sufficient. Pay attention to the condition of the cargo box itself: the floor, walls, and seals wear from intensive use, and rust on the underside of box trucks is a point of attention on older vehicles. Always request the maintenance booklet and APK (MOT/TÜV) history, and assess the engine based on mileage and use (city driving wears differently than highway use).

Which box truck suits your type of work?

Not every box truck is suitable for every type of work. For removals and furniture transport, a box truck with a furniture body is often the choice: extra high and wide, with sturdy fastening points. For construction materials and pallets, a tail lift is almost indispensable, especially if you regularly load and unload alone. If you transport fresh or refrigerated goods, you need an insulated refrigerated body, possibly with a cooling unit. If you drive a lot in the city, a more compact L1 or L2 version is more manoeuvrable; for bulky cargo over longer distances, an L3 or L4 box truck with a higher load volume is more efficient. First determine your type of cargo and driving pattern, then choose the size and body configuration.

Applying for financial lease: how it works

Applying for financial lease at Tatev Auto involves a few steps: you choose a box truck from the current stock, request a quote, and provide the necessary information for the financing application. Financial lease is possible up to 100% of the purchase value and up to 72 months term, also for startups and self-employed professionals without a long business history. If you have a current vehicle, trade-in is welcome and the residual value is offset against the financing. After approval, the box truck is APK (MOT/TÜV) approved and delivered to you road-ready, with delivery throughout the Netherlands if desired.
