Driving licence B and grey (commercial) plates: what applies to a 9-seater minibus

In the Netherlands, you can simply drive a 9-seater minibus (driver plus eight passengers) with a standard driving licence B, as long as the vehicle does not exceed 3,500 kg. This applies to almost all 9-seater minibuses. Only once you exceed eight passenger seats do you need a D1 or D licence. Do keep in mind that a minibus with rear seating does not qualify for grey (commercial) plates: these are reserved for vehicles configured for goods transport.
