A used 4x4 pickup has often had a tougher life than a passenger car, so a maintenance logbook with regular servicing is a good sign. Check the load bed and chassis for rust and damage, especially on vehicles that have been used on construction sites or in agriculture. Ask about the reason for any mileage that seems unusual relative to the build year, and check whether major services such as a timing belt or chain have already been carried out.
